Gutshot Straight A gutshot straight is a draw for a straight in which the card needed to complete the straight is one of the interior cards. For example, if a player is holding a 2, 3, 10, 5, and 6, this would be considered a “gutshot straight” because the card needed to complete the straight is in the middle of the straight. For example, a gutshot can make a poker player fold his or her cards. However, this decision isn’t always the best one. The chances are that players can win the pot even under such circumstances. Gutshots are one of the most exciting draws possible in poker

Texas Hold'em is the staple casino poker game, made popular as the official game of the World Series of Poker. Hole Cards Cards in the 'hole' means cards dealt face-down in Stud or Hold'em games. Honest, To keep To call another player's bets in case they are bluffing to ensure that they do not win the pot by default.

When playing Texas Hold’em another strategy worth learning about is gutshots – also known as “inside straight draws” – which is just one kind of draw that you can catch in poker. It basically means that you will have four cards to improve your draw, which is only half of the number of cards you could have to improve the situation in an open-ended straight draw. Gutshots can come with other qualities to take into consideration and, in some cases, the hand can even have a double gutshot, so it is important for you to understand how to modify your poker strategy when particular situations appear.

To have a better visualization of how this play would look, let’s say the flop presents a Q-10-6 combination and your pocket cards are 8-7; that’s certainly a gutshot since it only needs a 9 to become a made-straight. However, under the same circumstances, having A-K also becomes a gutshot since it only needs the J to make another straight. Focusing only on the AK combination, which becomes quite hard to play when the flop comes with a gutshot, it requires some other mixed strategies to make the most out of it.

When holding pocket A-K, you also need to pay attention to the range-vs.-range-equity estimates. Knowing how to play gutshots with an A-K combination will also give you a solid base to face other draws, such as nut flush draws with the same combination. Even though these hands have great chances of becoming a powerful hand, a common mistake is to always approach this hand in an aggressive way. When facing this situation, the best strategy to apply is a continuation bet (c-betting) that can help you gain momentum, but it will depend on your position in a table. If you are the small blind, you should approach the hand carefully and not overextend yourself.

Poker has been a part of the Indian culture since years altogether. Several terms that we use in a poker game are common terms that we used in our everyday lingo but have a different meaning. For example, words like straight draw, river, backdoor, etc. We’re building a bank of our own poker terms and you can check them all out here.

Today, we have got you the term Rainbow and its uses in your favourite card game! The term Rainbow in poker is used in Hold’em or Omaha to refer to a flop containing all different suits on the board, meaning no player’s flush can be completed on the flop or even on the turn card.

In simpler terms, it is a Hold’em flop in a hand of poker where all cards are different suits. For instance, the flop will host three different suits to be considered rainbow — K 10 5. For example, the flop comes as Q A 5 then this is called Queen Ace Five rainbow. This flop does not contain any cards of the same suit as a Heart, Club and Spade have been dealt.

A rainbow flop usually means there will be less chance of the player hitting a flush and hence it will change the way the hand is being played.

  • Situation 1: The flop appears K 10 5
  • Situation 2: The flop appears K 10 5

In the first situation, there was no chance of flush while in the second situation the chances are a bit high. Rainbow boards are harder to represent big hands as there are less big hands available when you remove flush possibilities.

The chances of a rainbow flop is quite high compared to most other poker probabilities. If you have suited hand cards that match one of the suits on the flop, you will need to hit two running cards of same suit to make a flush. The chances of hitting that backdoor flush are 4.2%.
